Essay on My Teaching Philosophy
Education has always been a huge part of my life. I decided I wanted to become a teacher when I was in kindergarten. My kindergarten teacher was an amazing person and even at the age of six, she inspired me. Throughout the following years, I maintained excellent grades and dedicated myself to school.
The point in my life that solidified my decision was my eleventh grade year. I started tutoring a friend’s daughter. One day, her mother came to me and asked me if I would tutor another girl. The girl was failing math with a 32% and had no family support to help her out. I agreed and immediately started tutoring the girl. On her next six weeks report card, her grade had jumped to a 90%. As an instructor, I intend to be a role model for my students. I will never do or say anything that I would not want them to repeat. My students will feel free to come and talk to me when they have a problem no matter what it deals with. If I can help in any way, I will.
I believe in rewarding and punishing behaviors in the classroom. If there are any problems in the classroom, I will address the student personally and privately. We will find a way to deal with the problem together. If, however, the problem persists, I will take the proper measures to make sure the problem does not happen again. I will also recognize good behavior and achievements of my students. I feel that students will strive harder if they know that their hard work will be acknowledged and rewarded.
